Life: Week 10

The photo above is not remotely representative of this past week! It was a week of rain, rain, and more rain, with just a few hours of patchy blue sky to remind us what we'd been missing. Obviously, the moment I saw sunlight hitting the trees outside my window, and I had to dash outside for a short walk on the Powerline Trail.  While it still looks very much like winter out there, I was able to spot a few early bloomers. Hopefully there will be more to follow soon. I'm definitely ready for some color around here!

On Sunday, we were up early to drive to Olympia for a trail work party with our favorite Washington Trails Association crew leader. For this work party, we were rerouting a section of trail so some old, unnecessary stairs could be removed. We spent all day digging, cutting roots, and moving heavy, wet clay to turn the uneven hillside into a well graded trail. It was definitely the hardest I've ever worked on a trail crew. I spent the days after hobbling around like an old woman! Even though I suffered in the days afterward, it was also the most fun I've had on a trail work crew yet! It's so satisfying to participate in transforming a rooty hillside into a level, stair-free trail, especially when you're swapping trail stories with like-minded hikers while you work!

Inspired by Ingunn and her gorgeous salads, I've started making salad lunches of my own.

Andy and I stopped for a much needed beer after an exhausting shopping trip to Fred Meyer on a Saturday. The crowds!  O_O

In the winter, this view always makes me think of a quilt with all its patchwork colors

My favorite spot on the Powerline Trails. How many times have I taken this photo?

I unearthed several tiny snails while digging through the top layer of organic soil. Sorry for waking you early for spring little guy!
