True to my nature, only a few days into August, and I’m already longing for the cooler, rainy weather of fall. Days of temperatures in the high 80s to 90s have led to many sleepless nights followed by lazy, unproductive days. To anyone not living in the blessedly moderate climate of PNW, 90° may not seem terribly hot, but years of living here have conditioned me to wilt in temperatures much over 70°.
This year, I do have one incentive to wish for heat and sun - I still have yet to have a single tomato ripen! At this point it feels a little like my plants are taunting me with the hundreds of plump green fruits weighing them down. Thanks to an extremely timely post from Seattle Urban Farm Company, at least I've resisted my temptation to resort to techniques for stressing tomatoes in a last-ditch effort to get those fruits to ripen. We'll see how much longer I can hold out!
