Every time I fly in to SeaTac, I fall in love with Seattle all over again, but after a week in California for work, the view from my window seat was particularly stunning! This particular trip to Sacramento was my last one, since as of next week, I'll be starting a new job where I (wonderfully) won't be working from home anymore. I feel like I made the most of my last stay in the area by finally managing to meet my aunt and cousin who live in the area for a lovely dinner at the same fantastic restaurant I visited on my previous stay last month. I don't see them nearly often enough, so I felt extra lucky to have the chance to catch up over some delicious elderflower gin & tonics! Family visit aside, it was my most exhausting work trip yet, and it was such a relief to get home again, especially knowing I'll never have to make that particular trip again!

It was another soggy spring week, although typical of spring in the PNW, there were passing moments of sunshine throughout the week. Rain or shine, there are flowers blooming everywhere! Even though my work days have been getting longer, I managed to find the time for a long walk along the Powerline Trail and down to the Sammamish River, a walk that started in sunshine and ended in a downpour. By now, I should be prepared for unpredictable weather in the spring, or almost any time of year, but I was complete unprepared, and wound up drenched by the time I made it home. I couldn't help but laugh at myself for being ridiculous enough to leave home without a rain jacket in April. Maybe eventually I'll learn, but at least when I got home there were dry clothes and a mug of tea to warm me up!

It's been an unpredictable, stormy spring. Most days, it would rain off and on all day, but in the evening there would be a few hours of clear weather, giving me just enough time for a walk before dinner. With frequent, rapidly passing downpours, during these period of sun the trees and their new green leaves would sparkle with accumulated raindrops. As much as I'm looking forward to the long, sunny days of summer, I'll miss this beautiful, erratic spring weather. By the weekend, it was sunny and warm - a little preview of summer, and the perfect weather for our April hike with the Alpine Trails Book Club.

This week was a long one. Work is getting hectic and stressful, and I haven't been sleeping well, which makes me not want to do much of anything but sit on the couch. I know that I'll be happier if I can manage to get outside for a run, hike, or even a short walk, but the comfort of the couch can be so hard to leave! That said, I did manage to make it outside a few times this week, including my first run in a downpour since I was a kid. I'd forgotten how fun it can be to get absolutely soaking wet, to splash right through puddles and have my hair plastered to my dripping face. Another blast from the past this week - I rode my old bike for the first time in at least 8 years. It always amazes me that it's true - you really never do forget how to ride a bicycle!
