Big stuff - this week I started a new job, one where I'm no longer working from home. Itβs been a dramatic positive change! Working from home, Iβve so missed simple things like a change of scenery and being around other people, and itβs been a relief to be back in an office, especially one that welcomed me with my favorite snack of chips & salsa! Another nice change - I get off work earlier, and even with a 15 minute commute that means I have plenty of time for post-work walks before going home to cook dinner. Itβs an excellent time to be out on the Powerline Trail too, with spring in full swing! Most of the cherry trees along the trail have already dropped their blossoms, but now the trail is lined with fresh new green. Since my sister in law was in town with the niece & nephew, Andy and I headed to Wenatchee to spend the weekend soaking up the sunshine with them. It was a weekend filled with small adventures, kite flying, and reading many, many books.

Work is really starting to get hectic these days, and over the past week I've worked several late nights. Most days, by the time I've finished my work day, all I have energy for is an hour or two of knitting while watching TV after a quick dinner. Thankfully, Andy and I managed to find the time for a long Sunday walk on the Tolt Pipeline trail. After a week cooped up indoors, the sunshine on my face and fresh scent of fresh cut grass and flowers was just what I'd needed! I'm definitely looking forward to the long days of summer when work will slow down a bit and I'll have more time to spend outdoors.

The weather has continued to swing wildly from rain to sun - like Mother Nature has bipolar disorder. It's what I love most about spring. Work this week continued to be hectic, as it will for at least the next month. Thankfully we had plans Friday evening to head to Whidbey for a relaxing weekend to celebrate my birthday. For the first time in months, I spent most of a morning reading a book. Over the weekend, we did manage to leave the cabin on a few occasions for visits to my favorite bookstore and restaurant, as well as a morning spent exploring the blooming rhododendrons at Meerkerk Gardens, but mostly we curled up indoors. There are few places I'd rather be than at the cabin with a fire crackling in the old cast-iron stove, watching the ever-shifting view of a spring storm.

After some excessively hot, sunny weather during the week, the damp, cool weekend was perfect. Especially since Andy and I had plans to sneak away for a long weekend on the Oregon Coast to celebrate my birthday. It was a long drive on Friday to Newport, but spending the whole weekend wandering the beach, snuggling the hotel cat, and re-reading The Hobbit in a cozy armchair by a fire made it totally worth it. The Hobbit has been a favorite of mine since I was very young, but it's rare that I allow myself to re-read books these days. I'd forgotten how enjoyable it can be to curl up with an old favorite. With the long list of book I want to read, it can be hard to remember to make time for the books I already know and love. Perhaps after this weekend I'll make the time to re-read a few more beloved books!
