While this week wasn't quite as action-packed as the last, it was equally lovely. With Andy's sister visiting for the long weekend, we took the ferry to spend the day with both his sister and mom on Whidbey Island. Standing on the deck, watching the sun set, Andy and I realized that it was a view we hadn't enjoyed since February - one we'd greatly missed. We spent our Saturday mostly sitting on the deck, drinking wine, and relaxing together. It was a peaceful, low key way to spend the day, something we all needed. This year has just slipped by. I’ve barely enjoyed summer, and already Labor Day is here and soon it will be fall. Hopefully I manage to savor fall a bit more that I have summer!

This was a tough week. Monday was a stressful scramble to get ahead at work, and the remainder of my week was spent in California for work. While I did manage to squeeze in a quick (and much needed!) visit with my sister-in-law while I was in the Bay Area, for the most part my trip was a series of busy days fill with client meeting followed by many late nights trying to stay on top of my regular day-to-day work. On two of the three nights of my time in California, I didn’t mange to tear myself away from my laptop until at least 8 PM, and by the time I boarded my flight home Friday at 8 PM, I felt a bit like I was drowning in work I’d need to catch up on come Tuesday morning (since Monday was a holiday). Happily, over the course of the weekend, I was able to forget work. Before I’d left for California, I’d hoped Andy and I would spend the long weekend backpacking, but after my exhausting travel I knew I needed a restful weekend at home. I’m still hoping to get out for one last backpacking trip before winter descends on the Cascades though!

What to say about week one of our two week vacation in Hawaii? We visited a few old favorite places, tried several new ones, and even stumbled across a Harry Potter marathon to watch over breakfast every morning for Labor Day weekend! I'll have plenty more to share about this trip soon - once I get through the hundreds of photos I took - but for now, I'll let some of the photos from my phone do the talking!

After a mostly quiet work week at home, on Saturday we headed to Whidbey Island for a long anniversary vacation. I always enjoy going to Whidbey, but I think September is my favorite month to be there. During the week it rained and rained, but by the time we got to the cabin on Saturday, the sun was shining and it almost felt like summer again. Since we were going for a longer visit, we took our cat with us. It was the first time we'd traveled with our cat, and luckily he adjusted to the new space pretty quickly. In fact, it didn't take long for all of us to get settled into a relaxing cabin routine.
