As usual, I have some catching up to do around here! Over the past year, I’ve continued to fall further and further behind on my weekly posts. It’s reached the point that every time I make a little headway on catching up, I exhaust myself in my flurry of writing, then fall even further behind in a creative rut. You wouldn’t believe the amount of time I’ve spent staring at an empty text box, the unmoving cursor blinking aggressively at me. Even though the guilt I feel over falling behind occasionally fills me with dread, I love these posts and definitely don’t plan to quit any time soon. Basically, this is a long winded way of saying that I’m still trying to catch up, so don’t give up on me yet! Maybe by the end of the year…

Just when I thought fall was coming to an end, it decided to stick around for another beautiful, sunny weekend! The week started with a power outage Monday night, one of several we've had this year. Thankfully, our power was back on by Tuesday morning, so it wasn't too disruptive. With the power out, we spent Monday night reading by candlelight and playing card games - a nice break from our routine. Work has slowed down enough that I even had time for my first lunchtime walk since early summer! Considering the fact that the sun is down well before I finish my work day, these lunchtime walks will save my sanity during the dark days of late fall and early winter.

The trees are nearly bare and winter feels like it's right around the corner, even though it's nearly a month away. This week, I had time to get outside a few times to enjoy the crisp, gorgeous fall weather we've had recently. It gets dark so early these days, and for the past weeks it's been I haven't been able to finish work until well after dark. It's been wonderful to finally have time for a walk during daylight hours again. Equally wonderful was getting to sleep in Saturday morning, and after a lazy morning at home, trying out brunch at a new restaurant in the area. Sunday morning, we were up early for an Alpine Trails Book Club hike. It rained the entire time we were on the trail, but we still had a great time. We even managed to find a mostly dry spot under the trees to eat our lunch. After a cold, wet hike, we were happy to warm up with pizza and beer at a new brewery on our way home!

And then, suddenly, it's winter. Seriously, I didn't even have time to make the Game of Thrones - winter is coming reference. This week started with noticeably colder weather, then an intense storm that knocked out the power both at my work and at home. By the end of the week, the sunshine had returned, but Friday morning brought below-freezing temperatures and the first frost. After the storm, many of the trees are now bare, but there are still a few beautiful golden trees for me to admire - the last gasp of fall. I always miss the leaves once they're gone, so I'm trying to soak up all the color while it lasts.
The silver lining of cold and stormy weather keeping me indoors is that I've had lots of time for knitting. So far this month, I've finished two Christmas projects and my mini mitten advent calendar. There will definitely be more photos of that after Thanksgiving, once I start decorating for Christmas!
