This was an interesting week. It started off cool and rainy, but by the weekend, the sun was blazing, and the temperature neared 100°! Spring ended with our typical June gloom, but having actual summer weather on the summer solstice was unexpected. Just in time for the weekend, I also caught some 24 hour bug, leaving me achy and congested and keeping me indoors for most of the weekend. By Sunday afternoon I was feeling back to myself, so we did manage to go for a long HOT walk in the watershed. With weather as hot as we've had over the past couple days, the blissful shade of wooded trails is what I crave. I'm definitely relieved the weather has cooled off for now. Hopefully we I luck out and we don't have too many more sweltering summer days this year. 75° is plenty warm for Seattle summers!

Spring is coming, but winter certainly isn't going down without a fight! Monday morning, we woke up to snow, and although it had mostly vanished by the evening, we had cold, stormy weather for most of the week, including plenty of hail, and a few thunderstorms. All this dramatic weather, combined with an increasingly busy work schedule, has made it hard to find the motivation to get outside. Even if I spent most of my time indoors, I did get to spend plenty of time with friends over the week! Good times with good friends are the perfect way to fight through this lingering winter gloom.

Between a miserable cold I had all week and a major storm forecast for the weekend, I've been a major homebody lately. The storm turned out to be much less apocalyptic than forecast, but the cold has really hit me hard. Luckily we are well into soup season! As usual for this time of year, I've been cooking tons of soup - this week it was chicken noodle early in the week, followed by tomato with grilled cheese. There's nothing like a bowl of homemade soup on a cold fall night. Even with all the stormy weather, Andy and I managed to squeeze in a walk in the Redmond Watershed Sunday afternoon during a brief gap in the torrential rain. After a week cooped up inside, a short walk in the woods was the best medicine I could ask for!

Between my busy work schedule and the nearly constant rain this week, I only managed to make it outside a few times. Thankfully with the gorgeous fall foliage coloring all the trees of Redmond, it doesn't take much time outdoors for me to feel completely content. I wish I had more time to get out to enjoy the constantly changing leaves in the area, since the scenery can change dramatically in a day this time of year. One day this week, driving to the store to get lunch, I drove past some vivid rust-colored trees and thought about stopping to take a few photos, but didn't have the time. Two days later, when I drove by again, the branches were completely bare of that beautiful foliage. I may not have a photo, but at least I had the chance to see those beautiful trees! Before I know it all the leaves will have tumbled from their branches and we'll be well into the darkness winter!

Another busy week! I don't remember May being such a hectic month for me in the past, but it certainly will be this year. I am so looking forward to June, when (so far at least!) I only have set plans one weekend. My calendar is mostly filled with fun, but having a busy work life and personal life is getting exhausting. I need time for hiking! That said, I have at least been getting outdoors for running, which is finally starting to become a regular part of my weekly schedule. With the warm, sunny weather we've been having, I've been very thankful that I have options for running in the shade. Going for a run on the nearby Powerline Trail a few weeks ago on an 80° day was a little too much for me to handle. It's amazing the difference a little shade makes.
