After what was starting to seem like an endless winter, the heavy snowfall in Seattle thatβs lasted nearly two weeks turned into slush and then rain by Tuesday. Unfortunately, now that snow just wonβt go away. Even worse, early Tuesday morning, we lost power, as the weight of snow began to cause trees to start shedding limbs as if they were dropping leaves. After work - what little work I was able to do with no electricity and no internet that is - I spent a few hours knitting by candlelight until Andy got home and we decided to venture out into town for a hot dinner and some outlets to recharge our phones. Wednesday morning, with the power still out, I packed up my laptop and ventured out onto the sludgy sidewalks to work find a coffee shop with free wifi where Iβd be able to work more effectively. After being cooped up in the apartment for so long, it was refreshing to work outside my home, especially with an almond milk latte and gruyere & thyme croissant for breakfast!

Somehow, miraculously, we had a second weekend of February sunshine this year! Usually in the PNW, especially in the winter, all our sunshine is dispersed throughout the week, with little left over for the weekend. This time the sunshine arrived just in time for our February Alpine Trails Book Club meeting! The day started off stormy, and my drive into Seattle for our morning with The Falconer was a little hectic. Over the course of several hours, we had the opportunity to meet several of John's bird, and even take his birds onto the glove ourselves. Even with a heavy leather glove for protection, I was initially intimidated by the idea of handling the huge predatory birds, but it was incredible to experience the birds from up close. While we sat inside, the stormy weather calmed and the sun broke through the clouds. After our morning with the birds, we had a quiet, sunny hike through Seward Park, sharing thoughts on the book we'd read and swapping favorite hikes as we walked. With sunshine on Sunday as well, after a lazy morning at home, Andy and I decided on a short hike through the Paradise Valley Conservation Area before heading to my parents for our weekly family dinner.

Another week of plague kept me mostly inactive, and so exhausted. For one terrible day, I even felt too sick to knit! Even so, I'm getting very close to finishing the sweater I've been knitting for myself. I'm amazed that I'll actually be finishing it in time to get some use out of it before summer. Most days this week, by the time I'd finished work, I was too tired to do much of anything but burrow under a blanket and binge watch Netflix until bedtime. By Sunday morning, after finally getting a god night's sleep, I was feeling mostly better and having a major case of cabin fever. It only took a little convincing to get Andy to agree to a short hike to Wallace Falls. Even in the rain, this was a beautiful hike, and exactly what I'd needed! As we hiked, I kept an eye out for signs of spring, but there were none to be found - or at least none my eye could catch.

Last week I was wrong when I predicted weeks of grey skies! We've had another week of springlike weather, and the blooms of late winter are everywhere, making it feel as it spring is well under way. I know that it's still weeks away, but I am loving every minute of this ever changing weather. From my office on Wednesday there was pouring rain out one window and sunshine out the other, and shortly afterward, a vivid rainbow. Other than the dramatic weather, it was a quiet week. Andy was getting over a terrible cold, so we didn't do much.
